After our trip back to the Dragons Den in November 2018, our Director Katy Berrill led the judging panel for the Young Enterprise Company Programme Finals held at Shenley Brook End School on Wednesday 27th March 2019. The event saw seven Teams from Schools across MK come together to present their business exhibition stand, conduct a business interview and present to an auditorium on their business idea and journey to date.
The judging panel was made up of 4 local business leaders, with Katy taking position as Head Judge this year. The evening saw awards presented to Teams for Customer Service, Environment Impact, Digital Presence, Presentation, Trade Stand, with the 2 overall highest scoring Teams through to the Regional County Finals.
Katy commented after the Event, “It was an absolute privilege to see so many young people share their vision and ideas with such confidence and passion. It was an exciting and rewarding event to be involved with to see future entrepreneurs in action.”
The evening included a motivational speech on Performance Mindset, from Paralympic Medallist Jonathan Broom-Edwards, as well as two finalists from last year who have gone on to set up multiple successful ventures off the back of their success and skills found last year within the Young Enterprise Programme.
With Business and Enterprise including Entrepreneurship such valuable skills to take from School into the workplace or into further education, Young Enterprise holds a valuable role within School Communities to Champion and Empower Schools to deliver successful Programmes with their Students.
This event was one of a number of School Community based activities Bid & Tender Support are involved in, to help provide students with the opportunity to build connections with real business people in their local community to further develop their skills for future employment and being entrepreneurs. Katy Berrill is also part of the Can Do Woman Programme at Milton Keynes Academy providing positive role model mentoring to young women; attends regular Business Breakfasts at MK Academy as well as recently taking up a role as School Governor for Westbrook Hay School in Berkhamsted, leading the Estates and Facilities Committee.
